My Philosophy of Comkputer assisted Language Learning (CALL)
Using the computer technology in teaching is a very common trend nowadays. Some teachers use word processors, websites, online quizzes, emails, and other types of computer technology when teaching. In fact, using computer technology helps teachers in simplifying ideas, for example, teachers may use certain multimedia files to teach pronunciation. It also saves time and makes the lesson look more vivid. In addition, students tend to like using technology when learning; because technology makes the learning process easier and more interesting. Online classes is a very useful way for learning; some students feel shy to express their opinions verbally, so they express it using discussion boards and emails. Other students can not attend classes physically, for some reasons, so they enroll in an online class and they find it more interesting and comfortable. In my opinion, teachers should try to learn the basics of computer technology so that they do not look old fashioned. That does not mean that teachers should master the computer technology in order to do a good job. They only should understand the basic principles underlying technology.
However, good teaching does not necessarily have to use computer technology. It all depends on the teacher; the teacher is the one who determines if technology will meet his/her educational goals. The focus should be on the learning outcomes not the technology itself. Teachers who would like to use technology in their classes do not have to start over and redesign the whole lesson for the sake of technology. Instead, they can only modify the areas in which technology can be used effectively.
