Harvest Party October 2005
Hither and Yon means "to move to and fro in various and unusual directions." We originally got together to play for functions at our Church, and numerous other informal gatherings. Since 1995, we have played at weddings, the IUP "Picnics in the Grove," the Indiana Arts Festival, and even the Pittsburgh Folk Festival. Our combination of fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals can move literally in any direction, from folk music (Finnish, Scandinavian, Irish), to popular music, jazz and even light classical.
Alan Craigie has sung and played guitar since the age of 9. He is originally from Detroit, Michigan performing there as a solo act until he moved to Indiana, Pa. in 1992. Locally he has also performed as a soloist, as well as being a vocalist and guitarist with the bands Abbee Road, Looking Back and the Irish group the Lads of Leith. He has recently concentrated on jazz guitar.
Carl Rahkonen has played viola since the age of 13, performing with numerous symphonies, chamber, folk and popular music ensembles. He started playing fiddle in 1994 and mandolin in 1995, enjoying Finnish, Scandinavian and Irish styles. He works as a music librarian and ethnomusicologist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
We've played together for
10 years. Here's how we've looked in past years.
