2003 Local Arrangements

The Niagara and the Midwest Chapters of the Society for Ethnomusicology will hold a joint annual meeting on the weekend of March 14-15, 2003, at the Trumbull Campus of Kent State University in Warren, Ohio.  Denise Seachrist will serve as Local Arrangements Chair. D. R. Elder will Chair the Program Committee.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Best Western Downtown Motor Inn, 777 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483 (330) 392-2515 Rates are 1 Queen bed -- $45.00; 2 Queen beds -- $52.00

The address for the Kent State Trumbull Campus is 4314 Mahoning Avenue NW, so the motel is just down the street.

DIRECTIONS TO THE BEST WESTERN

From I-80 West (The Ohio Turnpike):  Exit at Gate 14/209 then go East on Route 5.  Follow Route 5 for 7 miles to the third exit.  This is Mahoning Ave.  Exit at Mahoning and turn right.  Drive 2.5 miles, and the hotel is on the right side of the road.

From I-76 West:  Follow I-76 East to Exit 38B.  Take exit 38B, and this will be Route 5 East and Route 44 North.  These two roads run together for a short while before they spilt.  When they split, follow Route 5 East.  Once you pass Exit 14 of the Ohio Turnpike, start counting exits off Route 5.  You will be looking for the third exit past the Ohio Turnpike; this is Mahoning Ave.  Exit at Mahoning Ave. and turn right (South).  Drive for 2.5 miles, and the hotel is on the right.

From I-80 East (Pennsylvania):  Follow I-80 West to Route 11 North.  Follow Route 11 North to Route 82 West.  Follow 82 West to the Mahoning Ave. Exit. Exit on to Mahoning Ave. and turn left (South).  Drive for 2.5 miles, and the hotel is on the right side of the road.

The Trumbull Campus is located by the Mahoning Ave. and Route 5/82 Bypass (approx. 3 miles North from the Best Western).

Turn on to the Campus Drive at the traffic light by the McDonalds.  From the entrance continue straight into the faculty/staff parking lot.  [Do not follow the drive around to the left].

You may park in the faculty/staff lot without fear of being ticketed.  Enter into the Classroom / Administration Building at the entrance marked "High Tech Wing".  The Niagara/Midwest SEM meeting will utilize the music classroom, the Auditorium/Lecture Hall, and the Student Union -- all located in this building.
