SEM Niagara Chapter meeting 2006

Please join us for SEM Niagara Chapter's annual conference to be held at the School of the Arts, SUNY Geneseo, Geneseo NY, April 7–8, 2006. The Geneseo campus is located in the Genesee valley of Western New York, about 30 miles south of Rochester.

Click here for the Program.  The papers are all scheduled for Saturday April 8, in room 356A of Brodie Hall on the SUNY Geneseo campus and we are planning an informal mini world music concert Friday evening in Wadsworth Auditorium, to start at 8 pm.   General directions for getting to Geneseo and a map of the campus can be found through the college website:

http://www.geneseo.edu/

Click on "visitors", then "visiting Geneseo."  All faculty parking lots are open to the public after 5 pm Friday and all day Saturday.

We do have some interesting music performance offerings from the Geneseo and Rochester communities, but not enough, nor enough variety to make up the mini world variety show I envision for Friday evening. I would like to encourage (as in twisting an arm or two) more of you to offer a brief performance as part of that event.  A fiddle tune, a song, a khaen solo, a clever story, etc., five to twelve minutes or so.  Let me know.

Housing:

The only motel in town is a very pleasant Quality Inn, on Rte. 20A (4242 Lakeville Rd.) about 2 miles east of the campus.  They are holding some rooms for us until March 24.  Announce yourself as part of the SEM group.  Room prices are about $80.

Contact information:
Quality Inn - Geneseo
local phone: 585-243-0500
chain reservations: 800.4CHOICE

There are many more hotels/motels near I-390 about 20 miles north of town (toward Rochester).  There are also a few Bed & Breakfasts in the area, the closest and classiest (and more expensive than the Quality Inn) of which is the Big Tree Inn on Main St. Geneseo, a short walk from campus.  You can contact them at 585-243-5220 or www.bigtreeinn.com.  They have a nice tavern & restaurant as well.

As needed I'm sure we can come up with some crash/couch as well.  Let me know.

I hope to see you in Geneseo.
