for Ethnomusicology
(Approved at the annual business
meeting, March 29, 2008,
To Article XI of the SEM Constitution “Chapters”:
1. Membership: The Niagara Chapter has traditionally
included ethnomusicologists from
2. Meetings: The Chapter meets once a year in the Spring, generally at the invitation of a college or university in the Chapter region. The local committee may charge a small fee for registration to help cover the costs of the meeting.
3. Officers: The Chapter Chair and/or Co-Chair are elected, or volunteer, each year at our annual business meeting. They have the responsibility for organizing the program for the annual meeting and making the local arrangements. In addition we have a Secretary and a web-master who are elected or volunteer at the annual business meeting.
4. Communication: Chapter communications are done by e-mail. In addition the Chapter maintains a current web-site.
5. The T. Temple Tuttle Prize was established in 2001 in memory of Tom Tuttle, a founding member of the Niagara Chapter. It is awarded to recognize an outstanding student paper presented at the annual meeting. An ad hoc committee of three faculty readers, who do not have a student in consideration, will be organized at the annual business meeting. Students must submit an electronic form of their paper to the Tuttle Prize Committee for consideration within a week of its presentation. Students who have won the prize in the past are no longer eligible. The charge of the Committee will be to determine if there is a paper deserving the prize within two months following the meeting. The prize has been a fifty dollar cash award (voluntarily collected from faculty members of the Chapter), recognition of the prize, and the possibility of the paper being “published” on the Chapter web-site.
