Niagara Chapter

Society for Ethnomusicology

New:  The Niagara Chapter By-Laws were approved at the 2008 meeting.

CALL: for the T. Temple Tuttle Prize for an outstanding student paper presented at the 2008 meeting.

Welcome to the Niagara Chapter (Society for Ethnomusicology) web site!  The Niagara Chapter has traditionally included ethnomusicologists from Ontario, Western New York, Western Pennsylvania, and Eastern Ohio.  There are, however, no geographic restrictions on participation, so we welcome anyone in our region interested in ethnomusicology.

We are perhaps the most informal of all SEM Chapters.  For example, we do not collect formal dues, only a small registration fee to cover the actual cost of meetings.  We meet once each year, in the spring, at a college or university in the chapter.  Usually the person over the meeting program is considered our Chapter “President.”  For continuity, we do have a Secretary, who is nominated and elected at our annual Business Meeting.  Sara Stone Miller has served in this capacity for several years.

In recent years we have become a "Cyber-Chapter."  All our announcements, communications and programs are arranged by e-mail.  If you would like to be included on our e-mail list, or removed from the list, please contact: Rahkonen@iup.edu

We invite you to join us!
