Response Question 3 - Voicing the Interior Life Through Fiction
Assigned 6/ 16; Due 6/16
Consider the works of fiction we have read under the rubric of "voicing the interior life" as models or exemplary cases. What would Chopin, Gilman, Anderson, and O'Connor lead a novice reader of literature to think about it. Clearly many of these works would not be easily confused with popular forms of contemporary entertainment (eg. the "feel-good hit" movide of the summer). So what effects does American fiction aim to have on readers? What reactions does it strive to produce? Does paying attention to language (narration, tone, diction) help in understanding this?
