The Bride and Leonardo were once engaged to be married then they separated--each going their own separate way; Leonardo marries another woman who eventually has his child and the Bride continues to live with her father They strove hard to put time and space between themselves hoping that their feelings towards one another would dissipate. The Bride, when she becomes engaged to another man is never enthusiastic about the marriage nor is Leonardo happy in his marriage (he rides his horse everyday out to where the bride lives just to glimpse her). After the marriage, they flee, running away so they would be free to spend the rest of their lives together. Why did they wait so long, placing others in the position to be hurt by their actions and were their decisions about their love affair influenced by others? And how did the other parties, i.e. the Bridegroom his mother, Leonardo's wife and mother-in-law, and the Bride's father relationships with the Bride and Leonardo have influence on the outcome of the play? Describe the foreshadowing shown throughout the play that played into the outcome of the ending. Is the ending what you expected? Why or why not? |
