Description - This second group project
will resemble the first in some respects; you will collect the best work of groupmates in
a common project. The final product will be a paper magazine and will include 2 poems by
each group-mate. When you complete it, you'll make copies for your group and teacher. Coherence
- The poems should all take-off from the same formal experiment; the procedure
itself rather than theme or subject will give it coherence.
Procedure -
- Discuss the prospects and choose an experiment to center the project. Then
draft a prompt that will allow you to write three poems. You may create a prompt with
several variations, and you may make the process more detailed if you like.
- Choose a name for the magazine that reflects the group's style but that also
relates to the experiment you have chosen.
- Choose a technical editor (or team); begin thinking about magazine format. Will
each poem get it's own page? Will the arrangement be by author or will pieces be
arranged and juxtaposed for effect? What font style and layout options best fit the
project? Will you produce a landscape page that can be folded and center stapled? Will
author notes or commentary be added? (Consulting examples, like UTPB's Sandstorm,
library journals like Sulfur might be helpful; here's an example of the proofs to a high school
students' magazine.)
- Write three pieces each; bring typed copies of one for conference on Wednesday.
- Over the next several weeks, workshop the poems; writers, revise your pieces.
- Make editorial selections, choosing the preferred two of three poems written by
each member.
- Get final versions electronically, assemble, and print-off copies for
proof-reading.
- Publish it.
