Introduction
This WebQuest was
designed to enable students to authentically understand the text The Five People You Meet in Heaven
by Mitch Albom. Each student is required to choose one person, either
Students are to choose one person, from a historical figure to a
musician, a famous athlete or author. They will be inferring what five
people their person may have met after death, much like Eddie in
Albom's text. By doing this, the students will have an authentic
experience and practice surrounding the novel.
I have specific websites for students to use in order to find an
appropriate person to execute this project. I also have certain times
where I need written validation of the student's current work, as in
what person, how they plan to go about executing the project so that I
have an idea of what's going on and so that they have another way of
thinking about their project.
I have set
aside eight days for this WebQuest with an extra day set aside for
presentations if not all are able to finish on the seventh day. The
time at the end of the eight day will be used for discussion about the
WebQuest and project. I have planned out a day-by-day planner and daily
checklist so that the student is able to stay on track.
By choosing a person, they are able to
make this project something that is personally interesting to them. By
extensively researching their chosen person, they will doing a
non-fictional character study and analysis. By learning about their
person, they will learn the influences of the person, and be able to
make an educated inference as to who their person's five people they
would meet would be. Their inferences will be educated guesses and the
students are required to include reasoning and explanation for their
five.
The students will also get the chance
to share their projects, either an essay or through creative medium, in
front of the class. The students are also required to complete a
written reflection with specific points on which to address.
