Deadly Encounters

Process

You will have ONE WEEK to complete this WebQuest. No sweat, use this day-by-day planner and daily checklist to help keep you on task so you don't have to make huge sacrifices like the Captain in Eddie's story...

DAY ONE

You guessed it from this sweet statue, think. There is a lot to think about in terms of choosing the person you want to predict the five people they could have met.

Here are some great sites with some ideas for your person of choice:

Checklist

Preparation for Day Two:

Think of possible research databases you will use for your research. Check out some old periodicals, magazines, and books in the library. This WebQuest is not limited to online research. Don't forget to include any scholarly journals from EBSCO Host or any of the other databases available in the library that we have practiced using. Prepare an outline of specific things you already know about your choice person to help you begin research more quickly. If you do not know a lot about your person, look a little into him/her before class to enhance your research.
DAY TWO

Today you will begin your research on the person of your decided choice.

Checklist
Remember to keep your eye out for information on OTHER PEOPLE in your person's life so that you are able to make an educated prediction on whom they could have met.

Preparation for Day Three:

You will be required to decide on the medium through which you will present your person and their "fantastic five."

DAY THREE

Today you will be finishing up your research. It's time to get your Blue Man on and do some blueprinting. You need to make a decision on how you wish to execute this assignment: in either essay form or any other creative medium.

Checklist
Preparation for Day Four:

Day four is dedicated to finishing up the blueprinting step of this project and begin the final presentation piece. Any materials that are needed for day four should be listed and brought in. If there are any materials other than the ones available in school, specifically materials for those doing a creative project, be sure to collect them and bring them to class tomorrow. If you need anything, please let me know so that I can work something out with you to get the materials you need. Also in preparation, make a small list of what you need to have accomplished for the completion of your project so you know how much work you have to do, and check it off as you go to avoid missing or forgetting a step.

DAY FOUR

Today you will be required to be hard at work! Don't forget to smile. =D

Checklist

Preparation for Day Five:

Day five will be a continuation of the work you have done today.

DAY FIVE

Today will be a continuation of the work from last class. Try to get as much of your project done as possible. Tomorrow will be the last day to work in preparation for the presentations.

Checklist
  • Get about the other 1/2 of your project completed
Preparation for Day Six:

By the end of day five, your blueprints should be just about finished presentations. Day six, however is set aside to continue any work that needs completed, an extra day in case certain areas of the project process have taken longer than expected. Again, if there are any materials other than the ones available in school, specifically materials for those doing a creative project, be sure to collect them and bring them to class tomorrow. If you need anything, please let me know so that I can work something out with you to get the materials you need.

DAY SIX

Today is the final day of preparation, so you really will be a working class, of course with the appropriate materials. On day seven, we will begin presentations. Make sure to put on all the finishing touches on your projects, as today will be the last time to work on them in class.

Checklist
  • Project completion
  • Works Cited
Preparation for Day Seven:

Have everything polished for presentation. Have your excerpts picked out previously and written before class for the presentation. Don't forget to have fun with these presentations! If you found out some interesting information, let us know! This is the day for you to share your hard work with everyone.

DAY SEVEN

We have, in fact, reached the "dead end" of our Deadly Encounters. Today we will share our projects in presentation with the class.

A written reflection is due the day following your presentation. I have scheduled an eighth day to account for presentations in case we run short on time, which is a strong possibility. See "5. Reflection" under the "Task" link to view a detailed list of components required for the reflection.
