Deadly Encounters
Task
I hope you haven't resolved to take that silver nitrate, because
here's where it will be all explained...
1.
Choose a Human
Your task will be to choose one deceased person.
This person can be a historical figure, a musician, a poet, an
actor/actress, or even a character in a story. This person should be
anyone that you will be able to extensively research.
2.
Research
After you have chosen your human, you guessed
it, extensive research must be done. You will research this person's
childhood, teenage years, mid-life, and late-life, family, friends,
anyone, everyone, anything, and everything about this person.
3. Pick the Fantastic Five
Through this research, you will choose the five
people this person would have met, just like Eddie. You will have to
explain the relevance of these five people to the person of your choice
along with a brief history of this person. This can be done via any
medium, as long as you run it by me first. I'd like to have a general
idea of what you are doing. The representation of these five can be
through an essay, or through a more creative medium, such as a series
of journal entires, a visual collage, a PowerPoint, or anything else
you can think of. You can choose to either begin at the end, like Mitch
Albom, or start from the beginning, it's up to you.
4. Present
You will be presenting to the class your
representation. If you have written an essay, you will be required to
read an exerpt from the paper and generally cover the main ideas and
fundamentals of your person of choice and their five people. If you
have chosen a creative medium, you will be required to present your
representation with accompanied explanation the same as the essay. You
will have up to five minutes to present your material.
5. Reflection
You will be required to complete a written
reflection concerning the following:
- What you liked most about the
project/Why
- What you liked least/Why
- Interesting information you
found out
- How does this connect with Mitch
Albom's The Five People You
Meet in Heaven?
- How does this project better
your understanding of the text?
Remember, even though
these people are strangers and we may have no personal connection, as
the Blue Man once said, "Strangers are just family you have yet to come
to know."
