language theory as they pertain to literature, culture, and the English language.
Introduces concepts in linguistics; includes study of the history and politics of English
language change. Emphasis given to the advent of semiotics and how the attendant concepts
of structure and agency are informed by the intersection of language with gender, class,
and identity.
